Blue Mound State Park Friends Shelter
Join us on Saturday, April 20 from 1:15-2:00 p.m. at the Blue Mound State Park Friends Shelter for a presentation by Barb Barzen from the Driftless Area Land Conservancy. She will present Building the Driftless Trail: A Corridor of Resilience for People and Nature describing the exciting project and plans for developing it through the northeast quarter of Iowa County over the next 15-20 years. A landowner who hosts a segment of the trail will also describe her experience with the project.
In 2019, the Driftless Area Land Conservancy held a public meeting at the Blue Mound State Park Friends Shelter to ask how people felt about the idea of creating a 50+ mile footpath crossing mostly private lands to connect Blue Mound, Governor Dodge, and Tower Hill State Parks. This would allow for day hikes or long-distance hiking through this area that is almost entirely privately owned.
Many people in Blue Mounds, Dodgeville, Barneveld, and Spring Green liked this idea. Now five years later, three segments of the Driftless Trail are completed and open to the public, and the project has great momentum thanks to a large community of people who are making it happen.
